Publishing

If you would like to propose a topic for a special issue of the journal, please send your proposal to the editorial office at econth@iki.bas.bg. Please present the topic and explain why you believe it would be of interest to the academic community. It would be helpful to suggest sample subtopics and potential guest editors.

The journal "Economic Thought" publishes original scientific research in the fields of economic theory, economic policy, finance, international economics, regional development, innovation, management, accounting, and related scientific areas.

Only manuscripts that meet the following criteria are accepted for publication:

  • represent an original scientific contribution;
  • have not been published and are not simultaneously under review in another scientific journal;
  • comply with the principles of academic ethics.

Types of publications: original research articles; review articles.

Manuscripts are accepted in: Bulgarian; English; French.

Manuscript requirements – the article should be prepared according to the journal's format and should include:

  • title;
  • author's/authors' names;
  • institutional affiliation;
  • ORCID (recommended);
  • corresponding e-mail address;
  • abstract (up to 250 words);
  • 3 to 5 keywords;
  • JEL Classification codes;
  • main text, which should preferably include an introduction, literature review, research methodology, research results, discussion of results, and conclusion;
  • acknowledgements (if any);

  • funding (if any);

  • contribution of individual authors
  • conflict of Interests
  • use of generative artificial intelligence

  • references.

Length: recommended length of 3,000 to 10,000 words (6–20 pages).

Formatting: manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.docx). Basic requirements: A4 page size; main text Cambria 10 pt, titles Book Antiqua 12 pt; 1.0 line spacing; 2.5 cm margins; numbered pages.

Tables and figures: every table and figure must have a number, a title, and a source.

Declaration regarding Conflict of Interest, Confirmation of Authorship, and Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence: Authors are required to complete and submit this declaration at the same time as the manuscript. Download the declaration.

The journal follows APA 7th Style. All sources used must be cited in the text and included in the bibliography. Use of a DOI is recommended whenever available.

Sources in Cyrillic script must be transliterated into Latin script when cited.

 

Ethical Standards

As the publisher of Economic Thought Journal, the Economic Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (ERI-BAS) upholds the highest ethical standards and best practices at every stage of the publishing process. The journal’s Editorial Board strictly adheres to the guidance set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The Editorial Board of Economic Thought Journal follows the best practices in scholarly publishing presented in the Ethics Toolkit for a Successful Editorial Office of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Decisions to publish a submitted manuscript

The Editorial Board of Economic Thought Journal determines which submitted manuscripts are accepted for publication.

This decision is informed by anonymous peer reviews that evaluate the validity, quality, and relevance of the work to the journal’s readership. The Board follows the journal’s editorial policy and complies with all applicable legal requirements, including those related to libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

When necessary, the Board may seek input from additional editors or reviewers before making its final decision.

Non-discrimination

Manuscripts are judged on their intellectual content without regard to the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, nationality, citizenship, or political affiliation of the authors.

Confidentiality

Under no circumstances shall the Editor-in-Chief and members of the editorial board disclose information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, the manuscript reviewers, potential reviewers, other consultants associated with the manuscript, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and prevention of conflicts of interest

Members of the Editorial Board must not use unpublished materials, ideas, or data from submitted manuscripts for their research without the explicit written consent of the author(s). Any confidential information obtained during peer review must remain confidential and shall not be exploited for personal advantage.

Editorial Board members must recuse themselves from reviewing submissions if they have conflicts of interest, including competitive, collaborative, or institutional ties to the authors or affiliated organisations.

Additionally, the Editorial Board requires authors to disclose any potential competing interests at submission. Should undisclosed competing interests emerge after publication, the Board reserves the right to issue corrections or retractions as appropriate.

Involvement and cooperation in investigations

ERI-BAS, in collaboration with the Editorial Board, will take appropriate action upon receiving a complaint regarding ethical misconduct in a submitted manuscript or published material. Such measures typically involve contacting the author(s) to assess the validity of the claims. If necessary, notifications may also be sent to relevant institutions or research organisations. Should the complaint be substantiated, corrective actions will be taken, which may include publishing a correction, retracting the article, or other appropriate measures.

A decision must be reached—and action taken—on any reported ethical violations in editorial activity, even if the misconduct is identified years after publication.

Artificial Intelligence Policy

The use of artificial intelligence systems (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) must be declared when they have been used in the preparation of the manuscript.

Authors bear full responsibility for the content, the accuracy of the data, the interpretation of the results, and the originality of the text. Artificial intelligence systems may not be listed as authors of scientific publications.

Authors retain their copyright. All articles are licensed under CC BY 4.0. This license allows the content to be shared and adapted for commercial and non-commercial purposes, provided proper attribution is given.

Upon acceptance for publication, authors grant the publisher a non-exclusive right to publish and distribute the article.
